Meet Tara from Team JR & See How She is Raising Money for Macmillan

Meet Tara, the lovely lady on the other end of the JR phone.

Not only brimming with style, creativity & efficiency, but we can now add bravery & selflessness to the list too! Visit her ''Brave the Shave'' donation page to read her very honest story about her relationship wither her Nanny, filled with love & loss.

Driven with a desire to help others, raise money for the vital service Macmillan Nurses provide and as a cathartic way to channel the emotions of her loss, she has decided to ''Brave the Shave'' and shave her head in order to raise money for the charity. "I realised that there was something that I could do to show how much her passing had changed me, how extreme the emotions of losing someone so close to you can feel".

Team JosyRose is very proud of our girl Tara.
Please show her some support too and read her story here;

Make for Mum: Habby Necklace

Mother's Day is fast approaching. What better way to say 'i love you' to your Mum this year, by creating her this unique necklace, tailoring the fabrics, colours and beads all to your Mum's personal tastes.

Here's How:

Cut out your desired collar shape from a sturdy felt.

Choose a collection of clear acrylic stones in a selection of shapes. Cover them with a thin chiffon material, so you can still see the facets of the gems. Gather the fabric at the back of the gem and tack it together.

Sew the fabric covered stones onto your felt collar. Position them so that they sit slightly higher than the top edge of the collar to hide the felt.

Line up a string of multi-coloured beads made from precious stones along the bottom edge of the collar. Tack the string to the collar every 3 beads.

Fill in the gaps between the gems and beads with sew-on genuine crystal diamanté stones in clasps.

Measure a strip of black grosgrain ribbon to the length you wish your necklace to be. Cut it in half and stitch one end of each strip to the back of each tip to create the 'chain'.

Slot a ribbon end clasp onto the tip of each ribbon and close in place with a pair of jewellery pliers. Finish off with a screw clasp.

Butterfly Kisses

Create the base. Cover a haberdashery hoop with ribbon. If you don't have one you could make a hoop shape from thick wire, such as a coat hanger. Then, using sticky tape, secure a length of chunky piping cord along the wire to thicken it up. Wrap the ribbon around the hoop until it is completely covered, making sure that the ends meet at the top. I've used JR05207, a beautiful embellished sequin chiffon ribbon, adorned with intricate sequin flowers.

Now for the fun bit! Thread a selection of buttons, beads and diamanté onto some coloured craft wire. Wrap the decorated wire around the hoop. Tie a swatch ribbon in a simple knot to the top right. Add a sequin butterfly to the bottom right-hand side of the hoop and arrange a bouquet of diamanté buttons and flowers next to it, creating the main focal point.

To finish off, make a wire hanger, decorated with a range of beautiful beads. Wrap it round the top of the hoop and finish the other end with a simple finger loop.  Add a tassel to the top center. To finish, glue a blue chiffon flower at the front to hide the seams of the ribbon.
Products Used:
  • Chiffon Embellished Ribbon (Jr05207)
  • Butterfly brooch (Jr01171)
  • Daisies, pink, blue, green (Jr01652/54/55)
  • Diamanté Button (Jr04862)
  • Beads (Jr05087, Jr04848, Jr04847)

Sweet Dreams Eye Mask

Step 1: Cut Out Felt Pieces
  • baby blue felt – mask shape x2
  • light grey felt – cloud shape x1
  • white felt  – smaller cloud shape x1
  • light grey felt – oval face shape x1
  • white felt  – smaller oval face shape x1
Step 2: Make the Clouds Sleepy Face
  • Draw two small ‘U’ shaped eyes & a larger ‘U’ shaped mouth onto the white felt face.
  • Thread black embroidery thread onto a wide eyed needle.
  • Beginning from the top right hand corner start stitching the right hand eye using a running stitch technique.
  • Once you have got to the top left of the right eye, turn back and fill in the running stitch gaps until you are back at the top right. You will now have a sold ‘U’ shaped sleepy eye.
  • Now work your way back around to create the eyelashes.
  • Repeat the step above for the opposite eye.
  • Now, create a solid running stitch smile.

  • Sandwich the white and grey face together using a light blue embroidery thread in an open running stitch around the edge.
  • Glue a white marabou feather to the reverse.

Step 3: Make the Cloud

  • Sandwich the white and grey cloud shaped felt pieces together using a light blue embroidery thread open running stitch.
  • When you get to the bottom three curves of the cloud, insert the clear tear drop fringing, in sections of three and tack in place by continuing the open running stitch around the edge.

  • Select a colour-coordinated button and sew onto two circular layers of felt in increasing sizes and stitch into one of the clouds curves.
  • Repeat twice for the other two cloud curves.

Step 4: The Mask
  • Line up the blue mask pieces on top of each other with a thin piece of wadding in the middle.
  • Starting from the top middle, blanket stitch around the edge with a white embroidery thread.
  • Once you get to the sides, sandwich the polka dot satin ribbon between the templates and tack in place using a running stitch. Once you have stitched the width of the ribbon, continue blanket stitching around the edge of the mask

Step 5: Finishing Off

  • Tack the centre of the cloud onto the mask. Glue the face onto to hide the tack stitch.
  • Finish off by hot-fixing a few clear crystal diamanté onto the cloud for extra sparkle and add two rose pink diamanté to the face for the rosy cheeks.

Summer Craft Ideas – DIY Funky Sunglasses

Summer is on the horizon which means it’s time to unleash that summer wardrobe! We don’t know what it is but we can’t help but getting all creative when the sun is out, so we think we’ve found the perfect DIY tutorial tip to make your summer that little bit more funky.

Fashionably funky sunglasses are all over the catwalk and the high street, but who wants to pay £15+ for some accessorised glasses when you can have fun doing them yourself for a cheaper price!

All you need to do this tutorial is:
• A pair of cheap sunglasses
• Glue (we recommend Craft Quick Hold Adhesive)
• Craft accessories to cover your glasses in, e.g buttons, studs, and sequins.

1. Firstly, place the glasses you wish to style on a piece of old newspaper or a cover to ensure you don’t get glue on any of your surfaces.

2. Arrange your craft accessories in order of how you’re going to apply them to your glasses.

3. Take your glue and apply it to the part of your glasses where you want to attach your craft piece. Either with your fingers or craft tweezers attach your craft piece on top of the glue, make sure the piece is fully dry before you add another.

There are loads of different ways to accessorise your sunglasses. Here are a few of our suggestions:

• Acrylic stones or Diamantes for a sparkling design
• Go for a rock chic look with studs, whether they be heart shaped or square.
• Add different shaped sequins for a snazzy design

Getting stuck in!

Hi, we hope you’ve had a great month! We certainly have here at JosyRose, with some fantastic new products coming in to stock that we’ve had fun messing about with.

Stuck for ideas?

Leave your glue gun at home and try something new with the E6000 Spray Adhesive! There’s nothing quite like a multi-purpose, spray- on glue to use for all your crafting needs. As you can see from our video it’s fantastic at just about everything.

As a bonus there’s no funny smells, fumes, and it’s water resistant. You can use it on almost every material (that we can think of), and it dries in only a few minutes too. We think it’s ideal for most little craft jobs, most big ones as well!

In fact it’d be perfect for some of these crafty little ideas:

Glue your shoe

One simple mod that can make a lot of difference to your look is customising your plain old flip flops into something a bit more glamorous. Grab some jazzy ribbon and you can make even the plainest ‘flops look designer.

And with your new spray adhesive this is easier than ever, just spray on to the straps of your flip flops, hold the ribbon down for a minute or so - et voila! Where did your new shoes come from?

Turn anything in to a gem

Remember – this glue sticks to just about anything, so why not get creative? Add some stones to your mirror, your mobile phone case, or even a cute little box like this one to keep your trinkets in!

What else can you think of that you could make with these?

Crafty Cards

We always love making cards here at JosyRose, it’s a crafting classic. And now with the fantastic E6000 adhesive this is easier than ever. We think felt always looks great on cards!

Royal Fever at JosyRose

It’s been an exciting month, full of amazing weather and pretty summer dresses. But we've got a bit excited over the Royal family too, so much so that us here at JosyRose have come down with Royal fever!

The Coronation Festival
For starters, the Coronation festival was a big hit! The festival showed off some of the very best and most innovative trade and craft companies over the four days, and guess what? We were there!

Well, not there in person, but our gorgeous gold and navy ribbons were on show thanks to partners Halcyon days. Over 3 million people tuned in to watch, did you spot us?

On the subject of royals, Robbie Williams (British pop royalty) also used our lovely ribbons at his concert at the end of last month, we feel honoured.

A new Prince
Now on to the big news, William and Kate’s beautiful baby boy! Congratulations to them both. All three of the happy family looked relaxed and healthy as they left the hospital yesterday.

Any ideas on a name yet? The hot favourite at the moment for the new prince is George, but a few other suggestions include James and Alexander. We’re not sure which one we’d pick.

We have ribbons for both a boy in blue and a girl in pink but now we won’t be needing the pink one! The lovely blue ribbon has “It’s a Boy!” text and a cute little pram drawing, perfect for any royal baby celebrations.

Congratulations to the winner of our goody bag competition on our Facebook page, who won a knitted a baby boy goody bag shaped like a bottle! ‘Like’ our page for more competitions and offers.

Last month was very exciting for us all here at JosyRose as we discovered that a collection of JosyRose diamantes had been used to create a stunning Tiara for the princess of bling Katie Price.

Created by regular customers of JosyRose, Glitters created this stunning bridal piece out of diamante heart shape buttons which can be seen throughout this design. Katie Price wore this super glamorous piece in a private wedding ceremony to Keiran Hayler last month.

If you fancy following in Katie Price’s footsteps and adding a bit of Diamanté shine to your fashion or craft piece, you can shop our full range of Diamanté’s online at JosyRose.

Gok Wan is another famous face who loves JosyRose. In his Channel 4 programme ‘Gok's Clothes RoadShow’ we watched with delight as Gok transformed some heels using our very own glitter fabric! Using some plain black chunky heels, he took a sheet of our glitter fabric and showed the nation how to transform your heels within a matter of minutes. You can views Gok’s step by step guide on the 4 Beauty website.

5 Top Button Craft Ideas For You To Try!

Button crafts are taking the crafting world by storm, a quick Google around and you will find countless Pinterest accounts, blogs and ‘How to guides’ dedicated to buttons.

At Josy Rose we are huge fans of button crafts. Why you ask? Crafting with buttons is easy, inexpensive and is the quickest way to create or transform something dull to something bright, attractive and fun. That’s not all, we believe it’s great to encourage little ones to get into crafts from an early age, and that’s why getting crafty with buttons is great for children when accompanied by an adult.

Below we have listed 5 top button craft ideas to help get you started!

1.    Update your wardrobe
Have you been wearing the same coat for the past couple of years? Want to update your favourite dress? Looking for a cute t-shirt design for your little one? Using buttons to update your wardrobe is the easiest and inexpensive form of crafts! Sew some new buttons on to your coat, add some funky buttons to your dress and come up with a button design for a t-shirt for your child.  It is that easy!

2.    Jewellery

You can find button jewellery everywhere now on the high-street, but why buy it when you can make it for a fraction of the price. All you need is a plain loop hole chain, rings and some buttons. If you’re a bit apprehensive why not try taking a simple hair grip and add a button to the top of the grip, it takes five minutes and all you need is a grip, a button and glue.

3.    Home Art

Button wall art is fast becoming a trend in the crafting world. With a pack of buttons, a frame and some creative imagination you can create a unique piece of wall art, perfect for displaying in your child’s bedroom.

4.    Holiday Decorations

Buttons are great for using over the holiday period. Transform a plain holiday wreath by adding red and gold buttons and a big bow.  Or if you’re not fantastic at carving out a pumpkin at Halloween, why not form a ghoulish character out of buttons. This idea is simple yet fun for all the family!

5.    Card Design

An easy way to create a unique card design is by using buttons, simply sketch out a design (for example a love heart) and fill that design with various styles of buttons. Another option is to use buttons as lettering to display a personalised message, simple yet thoughtful.

We hope that these tips have inspired you to start crafting. At Josy Rose we have an extensive range of buttons online from Diamanté to shell, plastic to metal or singular buttons to packs.

Make your own with Josy Rose, visit us online today for all your haberdashery supplies.

Make A Fashion Statement With Studs!

This season, fashion studs have been featured all over the catwalk, these designs have now been incorporated into the high street shops. Following upcoming trends can prove to be quite costly especially if you want to purchase a few key pieces.

The alternative solution is to utilise what you have inside your wardrobe and to turn to crafts. Sometimes approaching fashion craft projects can be daunting, you don’t want to ruin what you’re customising, and you don’t want to spend too much creating something you could have easily brought cheaper in store.

At Josy Rose we have a massive range of claw backed studs available in all shapes, sizes and colours at very affordable prices. All you need to start your own fashion craft project is a pair of craft pliers (£4.99), a seam ripper (£1.90), and the stud(s) you wish to use. Depending on what you are customising you may also need some strong glue and/or a needle and thread.

Customising pieces of clothing with studs is possibly one of the easiest projects you can do. On many materials such as cotton and denim you can create your own design by pushing clawed back studs through your clothing and folding the claws so your stud is firmly attached.

Fashion accessories such as bags and shoes can also be studded easily. With the use of a seam ripper you can unpick the lining of a bag so you can insert studs on the outside and fold down the claws in the inside. With a needle and thread you can sew up the lining to hide the back of the studs, it’s that easy. Shoes can be customised similarly to clothing, with clawed back studs you can pierce them through the shoe fabric (if it’s thin enough) to create edgy styled shoes.

The most common studs used on clothing and accessories are mini rounded edge studs, vintage star studs, and square pyramid claw studs, all costing just £2.45 per 10 grams. For inspiration and tutorials on how to create your own stud designs visit our YouTube channel- TheJosyRoseChannel.

Studs are simple to use and very effective, to view our full collection of studs visit our website JosyRose!
